Why we built these tools
A whole-fence quantity is not enough to mark a Rail. Posts, Gates and Corners split a fence into separate openings. EvenGap solves those openings individually, shows running measurements, and prints strips that can be checked with a ruler.
Who is behind the calculations
The EvenGap editorial team develops and tests the software. We do not claim engineering licensure, inspection authority or construction qualifications. Our formula reference publishes the assumptions so you can inspect the arithmetic yourself.
What happens to your dimensions
Calculations run in your browser. The plan is stored in its URL, which you can copy and share. There are no accounts or server-side saved plans. Read the privacy notice for analytics and link details.
How we check and correct the tools
We compare worked examples with the published formulas, test the calculation rules and check the browser controls, saved links and generated PDFs. These checks establish software behavior; they do not replace physical printer calibration, on-site measurement or construction approval.
Each guide focuses on a measurement or layout decision. Product instructions and applicable local requirements remain separate checks. A page's update date records a content revision, not a promise that every external source or local rule was reviewed on that date.
Recent corrections
- September 28, 2026: added separate Post and deck explanations and corrected a materials rounding error that could add one extra item at exact whole-number totals.
- October 5, 2026: replaced generic guide FAQs with answers specific to each guide, including the distinction between fixed picket gaps and a ripped final deck board.
If a result looks wrong, use our correction contact. Include the page or saved plan link, the entered measurements, and the expected and actual result. Remove private information from shared links. We use reproducible examples to investigate corrections; we do not provide project-specific structural design.
